And it was very good, but I haven't gone back to it for ages. My mother didn't make it, but my father liked it in a particular German restaurant where we went a few times.

best.... mae at maefood.blogspot.comMae Travelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13328946930935633113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2387813811203789547.post-7434917349285456892015-10-27T22:02:32.706-05:002015-10-27T22:02:32.706-05:00lovely post, love how loving your family is and en...lovely post, love how loving your family is and enjoy food memories chow and chatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04225995063075911644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2387813811203789547.post-84188467294541582232015-10-25T22:31:08.704-05:002015-10-25T22:31:08.704-05:00This is a wonderful food tradition to resurrect, C...This is a wonderful food tradition to resurrect, Claudia! Such good memories of your father, aunts, and great grandmother.
I like scatterbrain--I'm sure my Ukrainian grandmother must have made it, but my mother never did. I had it when I attended nursing school and the city hospital I attended, and later worked for, made an effort to offer a rotation of different ethnic cuisines in the cafeteria. I could never turn down dumplings or red cabbage---they make the meal!Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoritihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08922525910685129822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2387813811203789547.post-57849308899727936042015-10-25T21:11:31.778-05:002015-10-25T21:11:31.778-05:00Wow, I can just imagine how flavorful and tender t...Wow, I can just imagine how flavorful and tender that roast must be after such a long marinade and cooking time. I want to make this, but I will skip the dumplings and make the red cabbage, a vegetable I love but is so underappreciated.Ciao Chow Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04479595368522070565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2387813811203789547.post-51781583419908930782015-10-25T09:09:38.199-05:002015-10-25T09:09:38.199-05:00True comfort food! I must give this a try and I just happen to have some juniper berries myself.
SamSam Hoffer / My Carolina Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15358601435867848753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2387813811203789547.post-69116662380992574212015-10-23T15:16:13.531-05:002015-10-23T15:16:13.531-05:00I haven't made sauerbraten in forever. This winter for sure. And I need to try your dumplings! I usually make my dumplings from flour only -- love the looks of yours. I must try that marinade one day and love the idea of using gingersnap to thicken the sauce.Angie's Recipeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14978978261098754954noreply@blogger.com
